Mid-Year Appraisals – One Reason You Did Not Achieve Your Goal

It’s the last Day of June!

Have you done your Half Year Appraisal yet?
How did you fare?
Are you feeling disappointed?
Are you beating yourself up over this?

Understandably, you may need to take a look at that One Thing that needs to change as you move into the second half. Before you do that however, I want you to go before the Lord with an attitude of thanksgiving no matter where you may find yourself on your journey.

God’s got it all in control.
It doesn’t matter how big the challenge may be – He’s Got You.

Praise Him. You’re alive! That’s enough to praise God for.

For the living there’s hope.

“Though the fig tree may not blossom, Nor fruit be on the vines; Though the labor of the olive may fail, And the fields yield no food; Though the flock may be cut off from the fold, And there be no herd in the stalls— Yet I will rejoice in the Lord , I will joy in the God of my salvation. The Lord God is my strength; He will make my feet like deer’s feet, And He will make me walk on my high hills.”
– Habakkuk 3:17-19 NKJV

As we end the first half of the year, you need to evaluate where you are and where you should have been or need to be.

If you find yourself behind on your goals, what is That One Thing You Need To Change in the Second Half?

Re-Evaluate

The fact that the first half was not what you wanted it to be like does not mean that you should totally abandon those goals of yours.

What should however happen is to revisit your strategies for achieving the goals.

Why were your goals not achieved?

Did you have the right strategies?

What can be done to ensure that you are still able to deliver on your goals?

Today, as we round up the first half of this year, I believe that there’s one thing that can help you to achieve your goals in the second half of the next year.

That One Thing is To Check Your Strategy.

A lot of us confuse goals with strategy.

We think that great goals are enough.

Your strategy is just as important as the quality of your goals. It’s the plan for achieving your goals – how to get from where you are to where you need to be.

If for instance, you have a goal of losing weight, how do you plan to get that done? You may decide to cut down on sugar, exercise more, take brisk walks. Anything you believe will take you closer to your goals will be your strategy for getting there.

It’s not just by wishing, but by being intentionally consistent about choosing to do one thing daily to move you towards your goal.

Check Your Strategy. Will it work? Is it moving you in the direction you need to get to?

As your journey into the next 6 months, make sure your strategies are closing the gap between where you are and where you need to be. If they are not, you need to revisit them.

Success is a journey, not a destination. Mark Twain
