How To Plan Ahead For A New Week – Sunday Planning and Prep

SUNDAY PLANNING + PREP

Planning your week on Sunday can help make sure that you’re making the most of your time.

When you plan for your week, you realize that, not only can you schedule items from your to-do list around important appointments and events, but you can make sure the most important things get done and that your priorities get done.

Sunday is the day that works best for me. I usually sit down sometime on Sunday afternoon to make plans for the week and work on prepping for the coming week.

If another day of the week works better for you, by all means, plan on another day.

Just make sure that you make your planning time consistent.

So, how do you do this?

Pray Over Your Plans Before You Begin

Spend a few moments asking God for direction in your planning so that you are sure your plans are in alignment with His will for your life and to remind yourself that He is the one in control of your life.

“Commit to the LORD whatever you do, and he will establish your plans.” Proverbs 16:3

? Gather All You Will Need Together

I like to sit down with my planner and everything else I am likely to need to get this done.
This helps to keep focused and avoid distractions by having to keep going back and forth.

? Create a To-Do List for the Week

Create this list around your goals for the year or for the month.
That is why you need to have goals you’re trying to meet.
You can’t just draw up some random list of things to do if it’s not going to move you ahead in meeting your personal goals.

In writing this list, you can use categories to make sure that you have covered the bases in the different things that matter to you.

A list to cover things for home, work, children’s school, business building, shopping…

? Move Some of These Items Into Your MUST – DO List

Writing things you need to do is great but there are certain things on that list that are not particularly urgent and won’t move into your MUST DO List.

Some of the items on your To Do List are definitely more important than others.

These are the ones that should make it to this list.

Doing this helps to prioritize items on your To Do List so you know which ones to tackle first.

? Check Your Calendar and Schedule Your List

Checking your calendar helps you to know if the things you’ve written will be possible.
It helps you to also know how to batch up tasks that may take you in similar directions that week.

There’s no point scheduling 2 different events on the same side of town for different days of the week when you can just do them at the same time.

This also helps you to think through your week so that you’re not over extending yourself and promising what you know you can never deliver.

Do you imagine scheduling an extended meeting (that you can avoid) on the same day your child has a school event that leaves you running late and feeling overwhelmed?

You get my drift?

? Don’t Forget To Also Prep Meals for The Week

This particularly helps to keep track of things and to make sure that you’re not stuck always thinking up what to cook.

Some of the resources in that bundle include a printable Meal Planner and a Calendar that you can use.

Plan meals ahead and you can also prepare some of the meal items half way for the week if possible.

This will definitely save you time and energy during the week.

? Get Things Ready For Monday
As an advocate of Getting Ready The Night Before, this is a crucial thing that every mom needs to get into the habit of doing regularly.

Get lunch bags packed, bottles filled, choose your outfit for the next day, have everyone’s items ready to go, etc.

Follow this step each night of the week so that you’re not rushing around in the mornings, trying to get ready.

These may feel like a lot of work for someone who is just trying out planning.

I promise you it doesn’t take as much time as it sounds and you will feel much more in control of your week you take time out to plan ahead every week.

Planning cannot be over emphasized for any Mom who will stay on top of her Mom Game and planning your week ahead is the best thing you can do for yourself.
