Worry Vs Peace

“Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. 7 And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus”.

– Philippians 4:6-7

Living at peace is counterculture.

I remember when I wrote the thesis for my bachelor’s program. The topic of this research work was Occupational Hazards and its relationship to mortality rate. We tried to examine the relationship between causes of death along occupational lines. So, we collated data from death records from different primary health care centers across the city. And I still find the result amazing.

Guess what we found out from that research?

You wouldn’t believe that we discovered that the occupation that had the highest number of deaths from cardiovascular related issues was from Housewives! Cardiovascular diseases are the ones related to the heart – things like stroke, hypertension….you get my drift.

Why will housewives die more from such things?

And I thought about it and came to the realization that it’s just because we are women.

As women, we often believe that everyone’s problems belong to us and then we worry about ourselves, our husbands, our children (or lack of them), our family members.

We worry about the bills, we worry about the school our children will attend, we worry about the way somebody is relating with us… we just worry!

And you know I just love the way the Bible addresses us sometimes. It says: “…how many of you by worrying can add a single moment to your life”Matthew 6:27

Nobody ever got anything done by worrying!

This is your friendly reminder,

“Don’t fret or worry. Instead of worrying, pray. Let petitions and praises shape your worries into prayers, letting God know your concerns. Before you know it, a sense of God’s wholeness, everything coming together for good, will come and settle you down. It’s wonderful what happens when Christ displaces worry at the center of your life.
Philippians 4:6-7

When worry comes your way and you feel like giving in to it, just remember God’s word and let His peace wash over you

Staying at peace in the midst of the storm is counterculture, and it takes a lot of denial of self-reliance, and embracing God’s will, purpose, and path for us.

Why worry when you can have the peace of God? Enjoy God’s peace today.

Prayer Moment

Father, I thank You for loving me enough to open my eyes to the reality that worry is a sin and not your will for me.

From today, I will not give in to worry, even when the circumstances around me want to get me worried. I will keep my focus and gaze on the Lord.

I stand today, in a place of peace, and I speak God’s peace over my heart and situations. I declare that God’s peace washes over my heart, as I surrender all to the Lord in Jesus’ name.

– Amen

Love,

Oluseye
