3 Powerful Scriptures to Pray Over Your Family
There is a popular saying – “A family that prays together stays together.”
When you pray together as a family, you stand in agreement with the word of God over your lives and all that concerns you as a family. God’s word is powerful and can break through every barrier or limitation that seems to hold you down as a family. And a good place to start is by praying scriptures over your family.
What Does the Bible Say About Praying Over Your Home?
Home is where the heart is. Moreover, the home is that place where every member of your family can run to for safety, warmth, security, love and comfort. You will also get to create many beautiful memories together as a family in your home over the years.
From pregnancies to births, meal-times to study hours, devotions and bible study moments and to celebrating major milestones in the lives of members of your family. Your home will always be a special part of your journey as a family. Every corner, space and article in your home matters and has its role on this journey. And this is why as a family, you must be quick to invite God into your home and constantly pray over your home.
2 Chronicles 7:15-16 “Now my eyes will be open and my ears attentive to the prayer that is made in this place. For now I have chosen and consecrated this house so that my name may be there forever. My eyes and my heart will be there for all time.”
Imagine the peace and security that comes with knowing that God’s eyes and heart will always be there in your home. God also says that his eyes and ears will be attentive to the prayer that is made in your home. Are you calling God’s attention to your home through constant prayer?
How do I Pray for my Family?
Prayer is conversation with God. It is all about connecting with God and building intimacy in those moments as you seek to spend time with your heavenly father. The good news is that our prayer does not have to be one-sided. God wants us to pour out our heart to him and hear him speak right back to our hearts. The says this : Pray without ceasing – 1 Thessalonians 5:17
There are no set rules to praying for your family. However God commands us in his word to pray at all times and in all seasons. You must always hold members of your family up constantly in prayer. Check out these few tips on how to pray for your family.
- Prayer List – Write out the names of members of your family in a journal. Choose a day of the week and fill out the names and what you will be praying over them. E.g. Husband – Mondays (Salvation). You can set reminders to help as you become intentional in praying for your loved ones.
- Prayer Journal – Since prayer is conversation with God, you can start praying by getting a prayer journal where you write out your specific prayers telling God all that is in your heart. This journaling time is a no-holds barred conversation with God, where you get to let it all out to your heavenly father and listen to him speak to your heart. Write down those things bugging you about your loved ones, open your heart to hear God speak and write out your prayers in faith. Remember to date your prayers, so that you can always look back to see how he has heard and answered those prayers.
- Praying Scriptures – God’s word is powerful. It is the carrier of God’s power and presence. You can take specific scriptures from the bible, write them down and begin to declare them as prayers over your family. “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.” – John 1:1 God and his word are one, and when we pray his word, we are inviting God’s presence into our family and situation.
