The Power of Silence for The Busy and Tired Mom
“But He said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for My power is perfected in weakness.” Therefore, I will boast all the more gladly in my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest on me”.
– Psalm 127: 3-5
There is power in Silence.
Truly, we can experience God’s power in our silent moments. Whenever we deliberately choose silence so that our hearts can connect with God, we have chosen well.
I love how Henri Nouwen says in ‘The Way of The Heart’;
“Solitude is not a private therapeutic place. Rather, it is the place of conversion, the place where the old self dies, and the new self is born…
In solitude I get rid of my scaffolding: no friends to talk with, no telephone calls to make, no meetings to attend, no music to entertain, no books to distract, just me – naked, vulnerable, weak, sinful, deprived, broken – nothing. It is this nothingness that I have to face in my solitude, a nothingness so dreadful that everything in me wants to run to my friends, my work, and my distractions so that I can forget my nothingness and make myself believe that I am worth something.”

We don’t choose silence so we can relax and rest only, but we need quiet, solitude, silence so that we can commune with God even more. The moments when our hearts are quiet are times when God can become the object of our love and existence.
Beyond going away for some days or prolonged moments of silence, we can choose to practice silence as a part of our daily lifestyle through our intentional choices.
There are moments when we must choose to look the other way, give our family and friends the benefit of the doubt instead of quick judgement. That is why the bible says, “Do not be quick with your mouth, do not be hasty in your heart to utter anything before God. God is in heaven and you are on earth, so let your words be few.”
How many times do you choose silence when you should? Or are we so caught up in the frenzy around us that we don’t believe in activities?
Don’t get caught up in the lie of the enemy that wants to pull you into a life of continued activities, running around like the hamster on a wheel.
This week, choose quiet, silence and solitude, make it a lifestyle, and see God’s power so much more in your life.
Prayer Moment
Thank You, Lord, for the privilege I have, to come into Your presence always. I know that You desire me even more than I could ever desire You.
Help me Lord to cultivate the discipline of quiet, silence and solitude, as a part of my everyday lifestyle.
Lord, I ask that You help me to know when I should be quiet, and when I should speak.
May I not be caught in a web of lies that the enemy brings my way, to make me believe that I need to constantly be doing to be acceptable before you. May I rest in Your unfailing love always. Amen
Love,
