Reward Yourself

” Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving.” – Colossians 3:23-24

Reward yourself.

Making a behavior change could be an uneasy feat and even painful experience for some; labor is required to effectively do so. The Bible says that every laborer is entitled to his wages. So, if behavior change is occurring, we must reward ourselves. God recognizes our efforts in making behavioral change and rewards for our action. We too must reward ourselves.

Reward could be intrinsic or extrinsic. Intrinsic reward is the feeling of accomplishment, while an extrinsic reward could be self-care, buying a gift for yourself or positive feedback from others. Rewarding ourselves for each small step taken, especially at the start of the process will stimulate a positive cycle for more change.

Think of two intrinsic rewards and two extrinsic rewards for yourself for the things you are doing well at. Make it a habit to celebrate your accomplishments; build it into your lifestyle. Declare today, “I confess today that I will reward myself for the positives and I will not punish myself for my slip-ups. I will celebrate my small accomplishments. I am genuinely happy for other people’s success, and I will not use their success to condemn myself. Amen!”

Prayer Moment

Lord, I thank You the great work You are doing in me. I celebrate the beautiful things I see daily.
Today, I ask for the grace to see all that You are doing in me, and I will not despise the growth that I see.
I commit to celebrating Your goodness in my life always, as I acknowledge all the amazing things You are doing.

Amen.
