#MondayMotivation – Move Out of Your Comfortable Place

“Step Out of Your Comfort zone”, everyone seems to be saying to you. We often think it’s in the big things – not at all. Stepping out of your comfort zone is doing anything that makes you uncomfortable, even in the slightest way.

Your comfort zone is the place where you can do things without thinking about it! It’s normal for you, it’s routine and you’re just very comfortable. Your anxiety level is steady, and you’re just on auto cruise.

I learnt a vital lesson about this over the weekend.

I needed to attend a seminar I had been looking forward to all my life! Usually, when I need to get to a place I am not very sure about for the first time, I take a cab. For subsequent visits, I could then drive there. And, as part of my comfort zone moves, I would request for a Cab on my Phone Uber App, and not just take a regular yellow cab. As God would have it, my card was declined, I guess because of new Central Bank regulatory matters. I was stuck! I simply do not like to take the regular cabs to places like that!

I wanted to get to the place for 9.30am and it was raining heavily. Talk of everything being against you! From the beginning of this year, I had told myself I was going to be an absolute risk taker, especially when it comes to my driving. So, I just whipped out my phone, checked Google Map, activated my satellite Navigation and made up my mind to set out in the rain no matter what. My husband wasn’t exactly in favor of my driving out in the heavy rain to a place I wasn’t familiar with, but I knew I needed to do this for myself. I needed to still those voices whispering in my head. I’m sure you know those voices too. They keep whispering all sorts to you.

“What if something happens?”

“What if you fail?”

“How do you know you can handle this?”

“Why don’t you do this later?”

“Must you even do this at all?”

I just stilled those voices and drove in the heavy rain to where I needed to go. I got there in one piece. The journey was quite smooth, and I made it before time.

This week, I don’t know what comfort zone you have subjected yourself to, you need to move things around. It could be as little as changing your normal sitting position! Change something, take a new route to work, listen to another genre of music, watch a different kind of movie… Just change something.

Starting with the little things – low risk things – builds up your confidence, and you’re more inclined to try out the new stuff in more serious things.

You need to move out of your comfortable place.

Have a Change-full week.
