Mid-Year Appraisals
Most companies run an annual appraisal for their staff where their work output is reviewed.
The most anticipated outcome of appraisals is an upward review of the salary package and promotion and In fact some people already make plans for the expected increase. I had my appraisals at the office recently and it was quite an experience. Appraisals are ‘Office Judgement day’, in split seconds your mind runs through your performance over the year, the good, the bad and the ugly as you anticipate likely questions that might pop up.
While I had an excellent appraisal with a top rating which qualifies me for the goodie bag I picked a few things from the exercise as it gave me the opportunity to reflect on my weaknesses, strengths and goals.
Away from office appraisals I think it is also very important that we appraise ourselves personally based on the goals set at the beginning of the year.
As we gradually move into the next half of the year it is a good time to sit back and reflect on the past 6months.
A wise man once said , ‘An unexamined life is not worth living.’
It is never late to turn around what might have been an unproductive year thus far. The only however to find out how you have fared thus far is to think deeply. You definitely do not want to end the year wondering what it would have been like if you achieved this or that.
Here are a few areas I suggest you appraise:
Spiritual
Family
Career
Finances
Social
In the next article we would take a closer look at each of these areas.
