Help! I’m The Other Woman Part 1

the other woman

“I am a married woman having an affair with a married man.”

“I never believed it could happen, but it did”

Most affairs are never planned – they just happen.

No one wakes up one morning and says:

“Today I plan to have an affair”!

But then, affairs happen, and this was for real.

I froze as I heard that voice! I knew that voice like my own name!

Uche!!! He stood there looking as good as ever.

I couldn’t believe he still had the ability to make my heart go flip flop after so many years.

But of course, I gave him a casual

“Hi, Uche”.

“Gloria!!!”

He enveloped me in a big hug and swept me off my feet.

I couldn’t help feeling a bit embarrassed.

“How have you been?”

We both chorused, laughing like little kids.

I noticed he had his wedding band on, so I relaxed.

“I am fine”, I quipped. “And how is madam?”

“She’s well o”. “And you too, how’s oga?”

“He’s doing great, God be praised”

“So, what brings you in to Nigeria?”

“I now live here.”

I couldn’t believe it, Uche lived right here in Lagos.

Oh Well… I caught myself quickly, he’s married now and so am I.

We exchanged social contacts and I left the mall.

On the drive home, I remembered the last time I saw Uche. He had travelled for his Masters in the U.S. and the relationship of 3 years just sort of drifted apart. It was so difficult keeping in touch with the time difference and his classes. We never really did break up the relationship.

“Hmmm…Uche”

The man everyone thought I’d marry.

That was in the past now, as I focused on the road on my way back home, where my husband of 6 years and two daughters waited for me.

As Musa opened the gate of the house, I saw a flashing red light on the passenger’s seat next to me, indicating I had a message on my phone.

“You still take my breath away…It was lovely seeing you again”

That was Uche.

I put my phone in my bag and I rushed in to get dinner ready.

Dinner served, kitchen cleaned.

I fell straight into bed.

“Glow, please don’t say that. I really am very sorry for all the pain I caused you. I really tried to get in touch with you after my Masters program, but by the time I could get in touch, I was told you were already planning your wedding. I did not want to be an intruder, so I just let you be.”
“I still love you Glow.”
“You can’t love me. What about your wife?”
“I just got married to her because you were already married. It’s you I love and not her”.
“Please take me back to my office. I can’t do this”
